May 5 (Renewables Now) - FuelCell Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FCEL) on Monday said that construction work has begun at the site of a 1.4-MW biofuels fuel cell facility in San Bernardino, California.
The plant will help clean up methane-rich biogas from the city's anaerobic digester and use it on site to produce renewable power and thermal energy to back the operation of the San Bernardino Municipal Water Department's (SBMWD) water reclamation plant.
The facility is expected to start operation in December. It will sell the power it produces to the SBMWD under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
FuelCell will fund the project using up to USD 3.5 million (EUR 3.2m) provided by Orion Energy Partners as part of an existing credit agreement.
