The third train brings the total LNG output at the facility to 15 million metric tons per year. Each train has the capacity to produce about 5 million metric tons per year of LNG.

The company sanctioned the third train in 2018, the same year the Corpus terminal produced its first LNG. In November 2019, the company moved the completion date up to the first half of 2021, several months ahead of schedule.

A sixth train is under construction at Cheniere's Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana, which would boost production capacity at that facility to 30 million metric tons per year.

Cheniere and construction partner Bechtel have now declared substantial completion on eight liquefaction trains at the Corpus Christi and Sabine Pass liquefaction projects.
